About Stichting Temple of Starlight

The Stichting Temple of Starlight is a foundation whose mission it is to adapt the Western Mystery Tradition to the 21st century. Our activities are divided into three categories.

Western Mystery School

The Western Mystery School organises training courses in Transpersonal Development. The trainings aim to bridge the gap between New Age practices and the Old Age Mystery Teachings of our ancestors. Our training courses are based on the philosophy and praxis of the Western Mystery Tradition and have a historical and initiatory mouth-to-ear lineage.

The magical Order Temple of Starlight

The Western Mystery Tradition offers a structured interconnected training system for Transpersonal Development based on the Hermetic Kabbala. The Magical Order Temple of Starlight offers the entire three-level initiation system that has been passed on throughout history through a continuous lineage of initiates, consisting of (proto-) scientists, magicians, nobility, alchemists and priests.

The Magical Order teaches the Western Esoteric Traditions from antiquity (Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek, Jewish Mysticism, Astrology, Gnostic Christianity, Spiritual Alchemy, Rosicrucian, Astrology, Celtic Mythology) to the present (Anthroposophy, Theosophy etc.). Practical applications of Tarot, Astrology, Kabbala, Magic and Alchemy are optimised by means of Hypnotherapy, NLP and Systemic work.

Our lineage consists of many famous names: Samuel MacGregor Mathers, Theodore Moriarty, Dion Fortune, Bishop Robert King, Ernest W. Butler and Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki. A lineage continued by Ina Custers-van Bergen, the Director of Studies of the Stichting Temple of Starlight and founder of the Western Mystery School, ensuring the Western Mystery Tradition to be translated and applied for our modern society.

Transpersonal Magic Trainer

This resulted in the development of the so called Transpersonal Magic® Training. This training bridges the old Sacred Sciences and the modern therapeutic methods for personal and professional development, by the application of Deep Imagination techniques. Ancient and modern techniques, integrated into one system. The Magical Kabbala as a road map. Knowledge surpassing theory, culminating into a living inner world. You learn to free your creativity, use your inner senses, balance reflection and action. Transpersonal development develops into an integrated part of your daily life, wherein self-reflection and personal mission become an integrated part of a personal and professional attitude.

For senior members of the Magical Order we offer the program Transpersonal Magic Trainer, to become an affiliate to the International Board of Hermetic Trainers and work with the system of Transpersonal Magic®, developed by Ina Cüsters-van Bergen.

We are connected to  CAT, Collectief Alternatieve Therapeuten in the Netherlands.

About the Western Mystery School

The Western Mystery School is a part of the Stichting Temple of Starlight, a Dutch foundation raised by Ina Custers-van Bergen. Our mission is to translate the Western Mystery Tradition and its life-changing mind altering techniques to the 21st century. To this end the Western Mystery School organises retreats, trainings, events and courses in Transpersonal Development to bridge the gap between modern therapeutic techniques such as NLP, Hypnotherapy and Family Constellations at one hand; and the powerful wisdom teachings of the Western Mystery Tradition at the other hand. Our training courses are based on the rich philosophy and magical praxis of Hermeticism and the Western Mystery Tradition.

The Western Mystery Tradition offers a rich, structured and cohesive system of Transpersonal Development. It has a colorful historical and an initiatory mouth-to-ear lineage: a lineage of initiates coming forth from from scientific, monastic and aristocratic circles.

The Western Mystery Tradition combines the Wisdom Teachings of antique temples from Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia and merges it with Gnostic Christianity, Judaism, Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, Anthroposophy and Theosophy. The practical applications of Tarot, Astrology, Kabbala, High Magic and Alchemy are optimised with Hypnotherapy, NLP and systemic work. A synergy wherein Angelology and the mythology of Egypt, Babylon, Greece and Avalon play a role.

Our lineage consists of famous names: Samuel MacGregor Mathers, Theodore Moriarty, Dion Fortune, Bishop Robert King, Ernest W. Butler and Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki. A lineage which Ina Custers-van Bergen, head of the Hermetic Order Temple of Starlight and Director of Studies of the Western Mystery School, continues and ensures that the delicate beauty of the Western Mystery Tradition is translated in such a way that it becomes a practical tool. A training that that expands from personal healing to self-development and from there transcends into the magical levels of mysticism in a way it can be combined with modern life.

Transpersonal Magic Training is the powerful implementation and stable integration of the Sacred Sciences with modern therapeutic methods. Ancient and modern techniques, integrated into one overall system; the Magical Kabbala as the roadmap. Knowledge and wisdom surpassing theory, build a living inner world of beauty and meaning. Learn to unfold your creativity, use your inner senses, balance reflection and action. In this way Transpersonal Magic becomes a rich and undividable part of your professional and personal attitude and of your magical and mystical development.

About Ina Cüsters-van Bergen

Ina Cüsters-van Bergen (Roermond, 1957) is a Dutch NLP- and Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, Magistra, Occultist and Author. She founded the first international acknowledged school for applied High Magic and practical Hermeticism in the Netherlands; the Temple of Starlight.1 This Western Mystery School has a direct lineage to the Golden Dawn via Dion Fortune, Ernest Butler and Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki.2

The Magical Motto of Ina Cüsters-van Bergen is: ‘Unifying the Two Lands’. This is an Egyptian maxim, used by the oldest Pharaohs to connect Upper and Lower Egypt.3 Ina Cüsters-van Bergen chose this saying to be her motto because it summarizes the work of the Magister: connecting the Transpersonal Realm and its higher states of consciousness to the worldly reality.

Early Life

Ina Cüsters-van Bergen conducted research to Transpersonal Consciousness from a very young age on. At her seventeenth she started practicing Yoga and Zen Buddhism, she worked with the material of Fritz Perls and Eva Pierrakos and applied the methods of Bioenergetics of Alexander Lowen.4 This quest for obtaining Transcendental Consciousness brought her into contact with several eastern and western traditions, until she learned to know the work of Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki (heading the Servants of the Light School). She enrolled in the study course and developed fast: first to supervisor, later to European coordinator.

The Foundation of the Magical Order Temple of Starlight

The Temple of Starlight was founded in November 2003 by Ina Cüsters-van Bergen and her team after having achieved her Magister Degree (the highest degree of the SOL). This implied the authorisation of the foundation of a European Daughter Order in the Western Mystery Tradition in the Lineage of Dion Fortune: the Magical Order Temple of Starlight.5

Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki wrote about this in her foreword of the Dutch version of the book The Temple of High Magic:

“Ina Cüsters-van Bergen knows exactly whereof she speaks. She is fully trained in the Sacred Science of High Magic and went through the entire curriculum. She has worked with many students and initiates and has learned how to avoid the obstacles stumbled against by the reckless. The Sacred Science is a strenuous lover, because she will absorb all your time, energy, patience and dedication.”6

In 2005 the untwining process between the Magical Order Temple of Starlight and the mother school Servants of the Light began, and the Order became a fully independent institution in 2007, with Ina Cüsters-van Bergen as Director of Studies.7 This resulted in a school with a lineage with the world-famous Golden Dawn, an English magical order that educated many well-known magicians and mystics.8 The Magical Order Temple of Starlight is the first training institute for applied High Magic and practical Hermeticism in the Golden Dawn tradition, established in the Netherlands; this makes her unique.

The order is well-appreciated internationally by influential teachers in Magical circles, such as Gareth Knight, the keeper of records of the Society of the Inner Light. He has become well-known as the editor and archivist of the works of Dion Fortune:

“… Now in a later turn of the spiral path, it pleases me to witness the work of Ina Cüsters-van Bergen, that flows forth organically from the work that has been done previously. She presents the age-old principles of the Western Mystery Tradition for the twenty-first century. May her work be a guide for your aspirations and a lantern for your feet …”9

The Temple of High Magic

Ina Cüsters-van Bergen made her debut as an author and specialist of the Western Mystery Tradition in 2007 with her book “De weg naar de oude mysteriën”, later translated to English and published in 2010 under the title “The Temple of High Magic”, and in 2013 in Italian as “Il tempio dell’Alta Magia”.

This book is a thorough introduction and gives a slice through the Western Mystery Tradition. Meanwhile it is a practical workbook. International colleagues welcomed this book enthusiastically and with positive reviews, this includes a review in the Inner Light Magazine, the magazine of the Society of the Inner Light.10

Bibliography

Momentarily Ina Cüsters-van Bergen works fulltime as the Director of Studies for the Magical Order Temple of Starlight and its outer court, the Western Mystery School. She publishes in the Netherlands and internationally. She teaches and gives lectures in Dutch, German and English, organizes rituals and training courses in different countries. In her teachings she uses techniques like Pathworking, Mystery Play, Healings, Energy work, Thought forms, Mantra and various other auto hypnotic techniques.11

Ina Cüsters-van Bergen is an advocate of professionalizing the Western Mystery Tradition.12 This is the reason for the foundation of the Western Mystery School (2016) as an outer institute of the Order and for developing the teachers training ‘Transpersonal Magic Trainer’ in 2017.

„It is of the utmost importance to develop quality criteria for the education in applied High Magic and practical Hermeticism, in order for the teachings of the Western Mystery Tradition to become accessible and applicable in our modern age so that our Western Society can benefit from these age old wisdom teachings.”13
